I saw no signs offering breeder information upon request, and no breeder information was available on puppy enclosures. The store gave grooming services and had two banks of cages, each stacked three high. Four cages held puppies, two being Shih Tzu that were each five-months-old, and the other two having a Shih Tzu and Maltese that each about eight-weeks-old. Cages had food and water containers and plastic sheeting below painted wire cage floorings. Floorings were partially covered with pieces of plastic and towels. The Maltese puppy’s towel had several fecal and urine stains on it, covering enough of the towel that it didn’t appear that the puppy could lay on the towel without contacting the stains. Where all of the cages’ walls and floorings met, the paint surrounding the metal was partially worn away, revealing rusted metal.
A worker (Hispanic male, young twenties, with short black hair and a short beard and moustache) was reluctant to tell me who breeds dogs for the store, and eventually claimed it was his uncle. He said his uncle, Walter Rodriguez, has about 25 dogs who go outside five times a day, and that he knows nothing else about his uncle’s breeding practices. However, the employee also said that he sells puppies almost every day, and that every week he has new puppies. s
Evidence of false statements and misrepresentations of breeders by store:
If a single breeder with 25 dogs is breeding for a store, it is highly unlikely the store will be able to sell a puppy almost every day, as the employee claimed. It is more likely the store receives puppies from multiple sources the employee did not disclose.
