Date and time of CAPS investigation: 1/6/26, 1344

Approximate number of puppies observed at time of investigation: one kitten, 10 puppies

Most animals lived in aquarium-like enclosures set into a wall, with there being nineteen enclosures total. I saw a kitten in one when I entered, though the other enclosures were empty for about forty-five minutes. When I entered the store, an employee claimed the puppies had just arrived from “the vet” and were eating in the back and would then be brought out. Enclosures were mostly barren.

The kitten had a litter box and water dish. While the puppy enclosures had slots for water bottles, there were no bottles. Puppy enclosures had small dog beds and or one or more small towels on the hard floorings, but about 80% of floorings were uncovered hard surfaces. A Doberman Pinscher puppy was a in a playroom instead, and appeared too large to be in one of the enclosures in the wall. The Doberman had a dog bed and a couple toys, but I did not see any food or water in the room.

The enclosures had pieces of paper on their front windows with information about puppies, except the breeder and/or broker information was missing. Each paper had “Breeder: N/A” written on it.

An employee evaded my questions about how much puppies cost but told me financing for them was possible through American First Finance. She claimed to know nothing about the APR involved with using it.

Store won’t give out breeder information

I told her I wanted to make sure the puppies didn’t come from puppy mills and asked if I could get breeder information on puppies. She said, “Only corporate has information on the breeders. We can give you photos of the parents if you are looking for that.” I asked, “Okay, do you know if they’re like big giant facilities, or if they breed them in their homes, or how long they breed them for? Stuff like that.” She responded, “Oh no, I know definitely corporate does not buy puppies from any puppy mills or bad breeders. We make sure all of our puppies are registered. They’re all full breed. They’re all vet-checked before they even arrive here.”

I then specifically asked her if she knew if the store’s breeders keep breeding dogs in cages, runs, or yards, how long they breed dogs for, and what happens with the dogs when they’re done with them. She answered, “No, that would be all corporate.”

I pushed further, asking, “If we wanted any information to google the breeder beforehand, could we get that before we decide on a purchase?” The employee told me she could not, saying, “Oh so that, the information on a breeder is confidential. We would have to go to corporate to possibly that information. Yeah, if we do give out information about the breeder, that gives out their information.”

The store doesn’t buy from puppy mills, yet employee knows nothing about the breeding conditions

The employee had contradicted herself, such as claiming the store doesn’t buy from puppy mills but then admitting knowing nothing about the breeding conditions of dogs. She then repeated knowing nothing about breeding conditions but tried to against assert that she was certain the conditions were acceptable by saying, “Yeah, we don’t know the breeding here; we get our puppies from local breeders. We make sure that they’re all registered, certified.” She did tell me the breeders are from Texas, and added, “They’re certified breeders, so they’re doing it the right, the right way.”
