Facing euthanasia, last two puppies are saved
Lexi and her seven-three-month-old puppies were abandoned on the streets of Kern County, California. A Kern County Animal Services animal control officer brought them to the shelter on July 22nd, 2024, where they became known as the L Group. They quickly became ill with upper respiratory infections and were approved for euthanasia.
But here at CAPS, we couldn’t give up on them. We requested more time and started sharing their story on social media. The L Group was loved by so many — the staff, volunteers, and all of you who helped spread the word.
Against the odds, Mama Lexi was adopted after escaping euthanasia for the second time. But her puppies were still at risk. We begged for more time, and slowly, the puppies started to find their forever homes. Some were adopted quickly, others took a bit longer, but hope was growing.
But then, Lorelei and Lester, now already six-months-old, were left behind. For the third time, they were added to the euthanasia list due to no interest. These sweet puppies, who had spent months waiting for their turn, were now facing the unimaginable. Their future seemed uncertain, and we were running out of options.
CAPS couldn’t let them be forgotten. Every plea, every post, every share kept their story alive. But time was running out. Just when we thought all hope was lost, a rescue stepped in at the last possible moment. They saw the potential in Lorelei and Lester, and they offered them a second chance along with 38 other dogs about to be euthanized.
After three months of hard work, dedication, and never giving up, We are so overjoyed to announce that the entire L Group is now SAFE. CAPS couldn’t have done it without the support of every person who shared their story.
By sharing, you gave them a future. You kept them alive long enough to make it out. We’re so grateful for every one of you who helped us fight for these dogs. Thank you for standing with us — and for them — until they were safe. Please help us continue this important work by donating to our cause and sharing our social media posts featuring at-risk dogs at Kern County Animal Services!
