No More Pet Store Puppies 805 plans a peaceful protest at the Animal Kingdom pet shop inside the Santa Maria Town Center Mall.
Animal Kingdom has been proven to obtain puppies from puppy mills and unknown breeders.
WHO: No More Pet Store Puppies 805 protesters.
WHAT: Due to the annual Valentine’s day surge in animal sales, we’re conducting a pro-adoption/anti puppy mill awareness protest at Animal Kingdom in Santa Maria. Animal Kingdom – a pet shop chain with locations in Santa Maria, Grover Beach, and Pismo Beach – sells puppies, kittens, and small animals.
Last year, the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) investigated Animal Kingdom’s Santa Maria location, revealing that the store obtains puppies from Midwest puppy mills with serious animal welfare violations. (The reports from the CAPS investigations are available upon request.)
Local advocates will gather this Saturday inside the mall, in front of Animal Kingdom. We will protest in silence, grieving for the millions of animals who will die in our nation’s shelters this year because there are not enough homes for them all. We are asking people to help our community by adopting a companion animal from a local shelter or 501(c)3 rescue organization instead of buying one.
WHEN: Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 12:00 pm
WHERE: Animal Kingdom, Santa Maria Town Center Mall
WHY: Animal Kingdom sells dogs from puppy mills and “local” breeders. Animal Kingdom’s pet disclosure forms, which a customer receives after a sale, list only first names and street addresses for “local” breeders. This incomplete breeder information violates California’s pet shop lemon law, which requires full disclosure of breeder and broker information (name, town, state, and USDA number) before and/or after the purchase of a dog or cat.
