Travis Needs Forever Home or Rescue Right Away

06/02/2026

Please help us find a forever home for Travis, whom CAPS saved in the nick of time from being euthanized after three months at Kern County Animal Services

Travis, a handsome 1-year-old neutered male Doberman Pinscher/Labrador Retriever mix, was at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield, CA, for nearly three months! He only stayed alive that long because he was a staff and volunteer favorite. All his vaccines are up-to-date.

The shelter planned to euthanize Travis on May 28, 2026. At the last minute, a Companion Animal Protection Society volunteer in Burbank, CA, agreed to take him but only for a very short time because of her husband’s medical condition. We desperately need a forever home or rescue for this calm, friendly dog who loves people and other dogs. He is a great addition for a family!

TRAVIS’ CHARACTERISTICS

CAPS’ video content creator, shelter staff and volunteers, and the temporary foster describe Travis as:

Playful
Affectionate
Calm and patient
Loves people and other dogs
Enjoys car rides
Leash trained
Friendly and polite
Well-behaved in public

ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT FEES

The adoption fee is $250 if you do not require transport. If you need us to arrange transportation to another part of California or to Oregon or Washington, you can pay the transport fee instead of the adoption fee. These fees vary depending on location and who is transporting. They generally are in the $200 – $300 range. If you are Northern California, we can arrange for a transporter to meet you halfway.

ABOUT
Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for at-risk dogs. The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs and puppies are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.
